Malika Ayubbi is a mixed-media artist based in the United States. She works primarily with acrylic paints and other mixed media.  Through her painting style, she attempts to fuse classic and modern styles of Islamic Calligraphy with versatile colorations and abstraction. Malika is always in pursuit of the healing aspects of art, which explains the use of colors that evoke certain emotions, in combination with soft, textured washes. Major influences in Malika’s work include many Persian art styles and Master calligrapher, Khalid El- Saii, with whom she has had the privilege of receiving some tutelage.

Malika’s education was not centered around becoming an artist.  Malika embraced the time-honored tradition of Islamic Calligraphy Arts, creating a modern and unique style. Malika’s artwork has graced the halls, homes, and stages of many pillars of the Muslim community, such as Angelica Lindsey Ali, better known as “Village Auntie”, Professor Butch Ware for Inkwells Project, University of Michigan Arab American Studies Department, and stage design for The Firdaus Ensemble.

“As an artist, I am inspired by the glorious Qur’anic Ayats, patterns, and colors found in modern and traditional arts. For me, art is never a finite process; it is a layering of intention, a quest for the divine, beautiful, otherworldly yet tangible. When I create, there is no formula. I am often led by color, texture, shapes, and Arabic calligraphy scripts and their meaning.  I am interested in making those elements harmonious with the canvas. It is very important to me that my paintings cause one to feel light and uplifted. The end result is fresh and modern with ties to traditional roots.”
